Alex Wald was born in Chicago and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has curated exhibitions in New York and Chicago, the first of their kind, on robot toys and the culture of Godzilla. Alex has worked in both animation and publishing and has been illustrating for more than twenty years. His love of cinema and pulp fiction drew him inevitably into the comic book field.

Alex had a tenure as art director for First Comics where he was involved in Shatter, the first comic drawn on computer and Lone Wolf and Cub, the first Japanese comic adapted for the US market. As art director, Alex worked closely with Frank Miller, Howard Chaykin, Bill Sienkiewicz, Gahan Wilson and many other artists. After the demise of First Comics he returned to freelancing in comic books and illustration. He has produced comic book work for corporate clients and the children's market.

His work for various cult garage bands brought him to the attention of the producer of Ultraman, Japan's most popular TV superhero. Alex's Ultraman work has been made into toys for the Asian market and even a line of bakery goods!

He lives in Chicago with his wife and lots of strange toys.
